For my Compassion Project, I created four little free art bags to be placed in different Little Free Library locations around Tampa. Little Free Libraries are small kiosks placed throughout neighborhoods, which provide free books to the public.
In just seven years since the first Little Free Library was made by Todd Bol as a tribute to his mother, there have been over 50,000 Little Free Libraries established worldwide (The History of Little Free Library, n.d.). The mission of the Little Free Library is “to promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations” (The History of Little Free Library, n.d., paragraph 4).
My intention is for the little free art bags to act as an extension of the Little Free Library’s hope to build community and share creativity and wisdom.
